Koundouros, Kea
Above the bay, open to the sea
Zephyros sits on a hillside above Koundouros bay on the south-west coast of Kea (Tzia), one of the Cyclades islands closest to Athens. The terrace and garden face west, so evenings bring long light across open Aegean water.
The beach
18 minutes on foot, 2 by car
Koundouros bay is one of the quieter corners of Kea, with clear water and a handful of small beaches. The walk down from the villa takes about 18 minutes along a shaded lane. If you prefer to drive, it is 2 minutes down the hill with parking at the waterfront.
The bay has a taverna at the water's edge and calm conditions that make it good for swimming most of the summer.

What's around
Koundouros is a small bay settlement in the south-west of Kea. Beyond the beach you will find a cluster of coves within easy reach by car, and several local tavernas serving fish and mezedes.
Kea's capital, Ioulida (known locally as the Chora), is about 20 minutes by car. The town sits high on a ridge with a medieval kastro, narrow whitewashed lanes, and good restaurants. The port of Korissia, where the ferries arrive, is roughly 25 minutes away and has a waterfront strip of cafes and tavernas.
A car is strongly recommended. Distances on the island are short, but local buses are infrequent. You reach Kea by ferry from Lavrio, a port about an hour south of central Athens. For schedules and car rental advice, see the island travel guide.
